1887-1980

Adam Sherriff Scott was born in Perth, Scotland on July 18, 1887. From 1903 to 1906, he studied at the Edinburgh School of Arts. In 1912, he settled in Montreal and in 1913, he married Anne Margaret Lauder with whom he had two children. From 1914 to 1918, he enlisted in the Highlanders regiment in Scotland. In 1919, he was the official painter for The Gazette. During the 1920s, he spent six years with the Inuit in the Arctic. In 1942, he became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. He taught in several institutions and, with his colleague TR MacDonald, he opened an art school on Bishop Street in Montreal. Given his specialization in historical subjects, he was hired as a muralist painter in Old Montreal where he created around twenty of them. He died in 1980 in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in Quebec.

He was the master trainer of several painters including Armand Tatossian.

His works are exhibited notably at the Hôtel Mont-Royal, at the Théâtre Saint-Denis, and at the Manoir Richelieu in La Malbaie.
