Klayrine Cormier studied fashion design at LaSalle College in the late 1980s. That's when the designer's destiny began to take shape. A scholarship holder from the Quebec Ministry of Culture, she flew to Paris in 1992 for an advanced training course. She will then learn the trade with master hatters and renowned milliners in the fields of theater, haute couture and ready-to-wear (Opéra Garnier, Opéra Bastille, Échap'mode workshop and Chérie Bibi). This internship will be decisive, since it is after this that the MADEMOISELLE K branded hat collections will see the light of day in 1994. Her creations will revolutionize the world of hat making in Quebec. The innovative concept, quality and originality will attract the attention of the fashion world, the media and the general public. Klayrine Cormier has won several awards and mentions at the Toronto, Montreal and Quebec craft fairs (best contemporary craft product in Toronto, Emerging Prize at the SMAQ in Montreal and Quebec City Prize – Plein Art ). Cirque du Soleil also acquired Mademoiselle K hat collections for three years as derivative products for its shows produced in the United States, Asia and Europe.
Klayrine Cormier approaches painting with an approach that she wants to be imbued with naivety and spontaneity. And yet, its finished product is rich in a studied composition applied to a textured background and highlighted by intense colors. Whether she favors the figurative or the abstract, Cormier prints imaginary forces in her paintings, revealing themselves through a palette of penetrating colors and aiming to transport the observer into a world of passion, depth and sensitivity. Klayrine Cormier offers a varied body of work that explores the contrast of shapes and colors as much as the diffuse fusion of objects and colors.
